What's so funny about peace, love, understanding and sensible shoes?

I'm a 50ish woman working in a public library in a depressed small town, and I've managed to climb just about to the bottom rung of the middle class ladder. I'll be writing about books, media, politics, music, and anything else that is not embarrassing to the family. I'm trying to uphold the seventies values of feminism, liberalism and pre-postmodern earnestness. I dislike snark and flippancy. I like my sensible shoes and my freak-flag gray hair. I think it's possible, through reason and empathy, to approach truth (as opposed to truthiness). I distrust Web 2.0 and I probably distrust you. But welcome, anyway!
